Our 12" Briar Rose applique quilt block is reminiscent of the peaceful setting of an informal country garden. It's a garden filled with roses of all colors, bunnies under the hedge, old wooden bird houses and a white picket fence.

When the gentile art of embroidery began to decline in the early 1800's, it was replaced with theorem (stencil) painting as an essential skill for the young ladies of the day. This wonderful 12" applique quilt block is based on these theorem paintings that were, at that time,
produced on velvet.
