I was born in Indiana but grew up in Houston,
Texas. Art classes were always my favorite part
of school, painting the holiday murals in
elementary school that later led to creating sets
for high school plays.
My mom was an early influence, teaching
me to sew and to appreciate all kinds of
handwork. As an adult working with high
school and community theater, I costumed
many an entire cast, designing and sewing
every last piece! Pattern making is still
one of my passions.
I graduated from The Texas Academy of Art
and my commercial art background spans
30 years in advertising design, production art,
writing and editing. I am the writer and
technical artist for all Curiosity's product.
I am married, divorced, married, divorced
and married (I finally got it right!), I have a daughter and two grandchildren.
I feel compelled to create originally designed
quilts to pass on to her
and her children. My husband and I live on
five acres in Colorado with a bevy of cats
and dogs. It is our haven where we escape
from the real world. |
I grew up in Wichita Kansas and I always
wanted to be an artist. From very early, I was involved in school art projects
and what my
mother called "Janet's messy projects"!
I received a BA in Art Education and
a MFA in Design from the University of
Kansas. In graduate school, weaving and
fiber arts were my majors. An interest in
antiques, history and art history is the basis for much of my designing.
My corporate work experience at Hallmark
and Current (where my 30 year career
included the positions of artist, merchandiser
and art director) gave me experience in the
business world, but I always pursued interests
in needlework, weaving and the fiber arts.
I now really, really enjoy product
development and design for Curiosity!
My son is now 30...(whew!) and I have
a grandson and one on the way.
I love to work with fabric and design and love
to teach others about our rich heritage of
women's art forms. I am also concentrating on becoming "the strange
quilt lady
with all the cats"! |
